At a time when the entire country, even a few nations is shocked and condemning the Pulwama terror attack, a widow, Komal Bai is from Sehore, a city in Madhya Pradesh who was defrauded of Rs 8 lakh by a con man pretending to be a CRPF jawan.

Komal Bai received the money as a compensation after her husband’s death, Om Prakash Mardania who was a CRPF personnel, got martyred in 2013.

Five CRPF personnel, including, Mardania of Shahpur village in Sehore was martyred in a terror attack in a camp in Srinagar.

Mardania was married to Komal Bai and they had two children aged 7 and 5, at the time.

On February 11 this year, a man impersonating as a CRPF personnel visited
Mardania’s house and told Komal that he had been sent by the security force as it is routine for CRPF to visit home of martyrs and check on the wellbeing of their families. The accused identified himself as Mishri Lal Meena. He told the woman that CRPF will be sending another Rs 34 lakh as compensation, but for that she needs to withdraw Rs 8.5 lakh that has already been paid to her, police said, citing the complaint. After convincing her, he accompanied her to the bank, where she withdrew the money. The accused took the money from her and fled said police.

A complaint has been registered and investigation is on in the case.

Additional SP of Sehore Sameer Yadav said, “We are carrying out an investigation.

And CRPF is also helping us as the accused had used the name of the force while committing the fraud. There have been several developments in the case and we are hopeful that we will be able to arrest the accused soon.”

The accused is certainly a person who knew about the money in the account of martyr’s widow and was also aware about the working of the forces as he had introduced himself as part of the routine visit done by CRPF to the martyr’s homes every two-three months for enquiring about their wellbeing.

We are investigating from several aspects and are hopeful of arresting the accused soon.”
