Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Madurai, Tamil Nadu defended the 10% reservation for the ‘economically weaker section’ (EWS) stating that 10% quota won’t affect the existing reservation
on Sunday.

In a public meeting in Madurai, PM Modi said, “The opposition was in an argument which is why PM Modi promised that the quota will not affect those who enjoy reservation at present. The decision has been taken in such a way that it does not affect dalits, tribals or other backward classes who are already availing the benefits of reservation.”

He included, “It is unfortunate that some people create suspicion and mistrust in Tamil Nadu to serve their self-interest.”

The 10% quota is a new quota which was one of the measures among others to provide employment opportunity and education to all sections of society.

BJP’s campaign theme or another glittering generality, PM Modi said, “our government would come down hard on corruption and those who “looted” the country.”

“The Union government is taking effective steps against corruption. All those who cheated or looted the country shall be brought to justice. This is regardless of whether they are in India or abroad.”

PM Modi said in Madurai’s public meeting organized by the BJP

“All those who made deals in government contracts, defence deals, and welfare schemes are facing the music. That is why they are coming together.”

“They have set aside their differences just to keep the watchman (him) away.”

“Whatever group they form out of fear and negativity, Narendra Modi will stand firmly with the poor. I call upon the people of Madurai and the youth of Tamil Nadu to reject the forces of negativity.”

PM Modi taking a dig at the ‘grand alliance’ of opposition parties in the making, recent Uttar Pradesh alliance and Bahujan Samajwadi Party’s extension in support to Congress.

“AiiMS had cultivated a brand name for healthcare. With AiiMS setting up in Madurai at a cost of more than Rs 1200 crore, it would reach all corners of the country, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and Madurai to Guwahati to Gujarat.”
