Today in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress has demanded 33 percent reservation for women in parliament and legislatures. Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha today in the parliament, Rajni Patil raising this issue said that International Women’s Day is going to fall on March 8 and the government is not doing anything on the issue of giving 33 % reservation for women in the parliament and legislatures in the country.

Patil said that representation of women in Parliament today is only 11 per cent. He said that former Congress President Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to the Prime Minister demanding 33 percent reservation for women in parliament and legislatures.

He demanded that the bill ought to be passed shortly for giving women 33 percent reservation in parliament and legislatures. The members of various parties have associated themselves with this issue.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu agreed with this demand and said that today it is a big challenge in front of the country and steps must be taken in this direction.
