In the general budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday, the education sector is expected to have more allocation for digital technology. At the same time, there is a possibility of focus on improvement of quality of primary education and expansion of secondary education.

 

According to government sources, allocation will be increased to promote education through online mediums in higher education. There are two reasons. In remote areas, where colleges are not, they are benefitted through this medium. Secondly, the challenge of lack of teachers can also be addressed. It will include online teaching as well as examinations etc. Recently, the government has approved full-time online degree courses in non-technical courses. While more than 600 online certificate courses have been started through the portal themselves. In primary education, the government has announced to launch Operation Digital Board. There is a possibility of separate allocation for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Explain that the annual budget for digital education is between 800-1000 crores which can be doubled this time.

The budget is provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in three stages for education. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, which includes education up to VIII, under the Right to Education Act.
