Churu, Rajasthan: Instead of helping the woman in a pitiful state, onlookers took photographs of her on their mobile phones, said the police.

In a disturbingly shocking incident that took place on Sunday, a woman was allegedly thrashed and stripped naked by in-laws. To report the matter in police station, she had to walk naked for 3 kms.

Police said that instead of helping the woman, who was in a pitiful state, onlookers took photographs of her on their mobile phones.

The alarmingly disturbing incident came in light on Sunday in Bidasar area of Churu district.

As per the police, the victim was allegedly tortured by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law after a verbal fight. They even tore off her clothes.

The victim has also reported to police that she was continuously tortured by her in-laws in the recent past in the absence of her husband. Unable to bear the torture, the woman decided to lodge an FIR and began walking towards the police station regardless of her condition.

A senior police officer said, “A woman from Churu was beaten up by her in-laws and they even tore her clothes. She came to the police station in a naked state. She is under police protection and an FIR has been registered. While on her way to the station, some people clicked her pictures. The matter is being probed.”

The police officer further added, “If pictures are found and if they have been made viral, in both the cases, appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved.”

According to the police, the victim’s husband is in Assam and is a daily wage labourer. The woman, who is from Akola area of Maharashtra moved to Churu after marriage.

Police said that a human trafficking angle might be involved and probe on it is ongoing.
