At a time when the rising rise in fuel prices has caused everyone to scratch their heads, a post-graduation student in Ganjam has created an innovative electric bike. This will alleviate the financial burden caused by the price hike.

Before developing the e-bike the one learned the concept from Youtube. He is Akshay Dash of Ramachandrapur near Berhampur in the Ganjam district of Odisha. “After successfully running the cycle with battery, I converted a scooty of my friend into an electric vehicle. Later, I fitted battery-run motor in my own ‘Pulsar’ bike,” he said.

He replaced the engine and silencer on his old Pulsar bike with a lid acid battery motor to make it an electric vehicle. Unlike petrol bikes, the rechargeable vehicle has reverse gear too. The designer spent roughly Rs 35,000 in developing the innovative design bike, which can travel up to 60-70 kms when fully charged.

“I want to create an e-bike that plugs to an inverter. He added, “I can also create electric wheelchairs for Divyangs.”

Akshay is a post-graduate student in Commerce who enjoys experimenting with electronic goods. He obtained the tools and materials he employed in his invention from various engineering and mechanical sources outside of the state.

People from neighbouring villages have placed orders for their fuel-powered two-wheelers to be modified into rechargeable electrical vehicles after hearing about his success.

“I also put an order for an e-bike,” said Arun Rout, a Berhampur resident.
It is both economical and comfortable.”

“He has transformed my bike into an electric vehicle,” claimed Santosh Kumar, a fellow villager of Akshay.

With 3 hours of charging, I can travel up to 60 kms for only Rs 3. So why should I pay Rs 100/l of petrol to travel the same distance?”
