On June 18, the country joined together to mourn the death of great sprinter Milkha Singh, who died of Covid-related problems. With its trademark ingenuity, dairy giant Amul used social media to pay respect to the icon with a heartfelt graphic.

Amul shared a photo of Milkha Singh racing and touching the race ribbon on Twitter. The wording in the photo refers to the sprinter writing history with his feet rather than a pen.

Milkha Singh arrived in India after Partition in 1947. While serving in the Indian Army, he was introduced to track and field sprinting. At the Commonwealth Games in 1958, he won India’s first gold medal in the 400 meters and set a new national record, which was only broken 56 years later in 2014. He also won gold medals in the Asian Games in 1958 and 1962.

The dairy brand’s creativity moved netizens as it was posted online, with many joining in to offer their respects to the Padma Shri awardee. People from all over the country expressed their condolences to Singh and his family on social media. People paid tribute to the sprinter, who has been an inspiration to many, from cricketers to actors and more.
