On Sunday morning, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported back-to-back earthquakes in the northeastern part of India, with a series of tremors ranging in magnitude from 3.1 to 3.6 on the Richter Scale hitting two regions in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. However, no injuries or property damage have been reported as a result of the incidents.
The first earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.1 on the Richter Scale, struck near Pangin, Arunachal Pradesh, at around 1:02 a.m., according to NCS alerts. A second earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.6 on the Richter Scale, struck near Shirui village in Manipur’s Ukrul district shortly after.
The first earthquake struck at 1:02 a.m., 95 kilometres north-northwest of Pangin in Arunachal Pradesh, at a depth of 17 kilometres, according to the National Centre for Seismology. At 1:22 a.m., a second earthquake struck 20 kilometres northwest of Shirui, Manipur, at a depth of 30 kilometres.
A mild earthquake measuring magnitude 3.1 on the Richter Scale was reported 62 kilometres north of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, at a depth of 15 kilometres, around 5:41 a.m., according to the NCS.
