Ritika Phogat, Babita Phogat’s maternal cousin, allegedly committed suicide after losing the final match of a wrestling tournament, according to reports. According to several media sources, Ritika’s suicide was inspired by her humiliation as a result of her defeat in the match. Ritika Phogat, 17, was said to be upset after losing a wrestling tournament final by a hair. Between March 12 and 14, she competed in a state-level competition in Bharatpur, Rajasthan.

Investigations are currently being conducted “Charkhi Dadri’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Singh Bishnoi, told news agency ANI. She was depressed, according to the police, after losing the final by one point.

As seen in the famous Bollywood film Dangal, wrestling runs in the Phogat household, with Geeta and Babita Phogat leading the charge. Other members of the Phogat family make a living as wrestlers.

Ritika, like the rest of her family, was a state-level wrestler. She was wrestling in the sub-junior, junior women’s, and junior men’s divisions at Bharatpur’s Lohagarh Stadium. The competition began on March 12 and conclude on March 14 with the final.

Ritika battled her way to the tournament final, where she allegedly lost the decider by the tiniest of margins. The shame of loss is said to have caused her to make this drastic decision.

Late Monday, she was discovered dead at the home of her uncle, famed wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Ritika had gone to a sports academy owned by Mahavir Phogat, a Dronacharya award recipient. The family’s shock and sorrow were mirrored in Geeta Phogat’s message.

“Ritika, my younger sister, and cousin, should she rest in peace. My family is going through a very tough time right now. Ritika was a talented wrestler, but I’m not sure why she did this. Winning and losing is a part of life, and no one should go to those lengths ”  in Hindi she tweeted.

Ritu Phogat, their younger sibling, has recently been seen competing in mixed martial arts. Ritu has been participating in the ONE Championship, while Vinesh Phogat, Ritu’s nephew, is a freestyle wrestler and one of India’s highest medal hopes at the Tokyo Olympics.
