In the midst of the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Haryana government plans to reopen schools on June 1.

According to media sources, after the completion of their summer holidays, students in grades 9 through 12 will return to school. The schools, which are expected to open in June, will adhere to all COVID-19 guidelines.

The Directorate of Education has given reopening orders to district education offices across the state. According to a Jagran article, they have been instructed to give data about the pupils’ infrastructure, including the number of benches in the school. Only one student will be allowed to occupy a single seat.

In schools, strict adherence to COVID-19 rules like mask use, social separation, and frequent hand sanitizing will be enforced, according to then recorded.

The decision follows a decrease in new coronavirus infections in Haryana. On Wednesday (May 26), 3,183 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total to 7,47,740, while 106 new fatalities brought the total to 7,841, according to the state health bulletin.

On Wednesday, the state’s total current COVID-19 infections stood at 31,644, with the cumulative positive rate reaching 8.51 percent.

Previously, the Haryana government prolonged the lockdown by one week, till 5 a.m. on May 31 because of the state’s COVID-19 crisis.
