Indore again won India’s Cleanest City award after President Ram Nath Kovind announced the 2021 Swachh Sarvekshan award on Saturday. This is the fifth year in a row that City of Madhya Pradesh has won the award at the sixth edition of the event.

Surat in Gujarat, which ranked second in last year’s list of cleanest cities, retains its position this year. Meanwhile, Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh takes third place on the list. In 2020, Navi Mumbai is celebrated in Maharashtra as the third cleanest city in India.

Chhattisgarh was named the cleanest state in the annual hygiene survey, while Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh was named the cleanest city on the Ganges in the 2021 Swachh Sarvekshan Awards.

On Twitter, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development Hardip Singh Puri welcomed Indore and its “people, political leadership and municipal corporation,” among others.
