Assam Mizoram border row turns violent CMs seeks Centre intervention | India News – India TV

Miscreants from Assam, according to the Mizoram government, have removed railway tracks and blocked National Highway (NH) 306, causing traffic congestion in the state. Mizoram home secretary Lalbiaksangi said the acts have resulted in the blocking of the only railway line connecting Bairabi railway station in the state, pleading with the Centre to intervene sooner rather than later in the simmering border dispute.

He stated that no state agency or entity, as well as the general public, has the authority to block national highways and railway lines, preventing people and goods from moving freely.

“Unknown miscreants from Assam have destroyed/removed railway tracks at Mohammedpur Railway Station and Ramnathpur Railway Station in Hailakandi district in Assam. With this, the only railway line connecting Bairabi Railway Station in Mizoram has been blocked,” said Lalbiaksangi in his message, adding Silchar-Aizawl stretch of NH-306 has also been blocked at Kabuganj in the Barak Valley by people on the Assam side.

He asked the Centre to take the necessary steps to lift the blockade immediately, allowing goods and passengers to flow freely into Mizoram.

Assam and Mizoram, which clashed fatally over a border dispute on July 26, reached an interim agreement on Wednesday. The two states will withdraw their police forces and central paramilitary troops will be deployed in a four-kilometer disputed stretch that will function as a sort of no man’s land until a permanent solution is found, according to the agreement reached following talks in Delhi.
