Param Bir Singh, the Mumbai Police Commissioner, has been transferred as a result of the mystery SUV accident, just days after the NIA arrested city police officer Sachin Waze in connection with its inquiry into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s home. Mumbai’s new police chief, Hemant Nagrale, has been installed.

Param Bir Singh has been assigned to the DG Homeguards unit.

The announcement of the transfer was made by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. He said: “Param Bir Singh transferred and posted as DG Home Guard. Hemant Nagrale appointed as the new Commissioner of Mumbai Police.”

The developments follow a major tug-of-war between the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi allies of Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress in the past two weeks, following the discovery of an abandoned SUV outside Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia house.

Param Bir Singh met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday. According to sources, Singh met Thackeray on Tuesday night at the latter’s official residence, ‘Varsha,’ in Mumbai.

Sachin Waze, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13, was formerly assigned to the city police’s crime branch’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU).

In connection with the case involving the recovery of the vehicle with explosives near Ambani’s house in Mumbai last month, the NIA has so far reported the statements of seven officials from the crime branch, including an assistant commissioner of police. Waze, who is credited with killing 63 alleged criminals in ‘encounters,’ is also being investigated in the murder of Thane-based businessman Mansukh Hiran, who was in possession of the Scorpio at the time of his death. Hiran was discovered dead in a creek in the Thane district on march 5.

The news came just hours after Singh met with state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the continuing investigation into the Mumbai bomb scare. The meeting took place against the backdrop of Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze’s arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is reportedly investigating the Antilia bomb scare case. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended Waze on March 13. Until recently, he was a member of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU).
