The government has advised people not to relax their guard against the novel coronavirus in light of the possibility of a third wave peak of Covid-19 in September or October this year. Doctor VK Paul of Niti Aayog commented on the commencement of the third Covid wave, saying that the situation is fragile and that people must exercise restraint.

He emphasized that if COVID-appropriate behavior is followed and the majority of people get vaccinated, a third wave can be avoided.

“If we follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour and get ourselves vaccinated, why will there be a third wave? Many countries have yet to receive the second wave; if we follow COVID guidelines, this period can be shortened” stated Dr. VK Paul.

If people cease wearing masks, avoid social separation, and ignore other Covid-appropriate behaviors, the third wave could impact India in the next six to eight weeks, according to AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria.

According to Guleria, just a small percentage of the country’s population has been vaccinated, thus Covid-appropriate behavior must be promoted vigorously. Meanwhile, according to data published on Tuesday by the Union Health Ministry, India registered less than 50,000 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 91 days, bringing the total number of cases to 2,99,77,861, while active cases dipped below 7 lakh for the first time in 79 days.

In a single day, 42,640 Covid infections were reported, while the mortality toll rose to 3,89,302, with 1,167 daily fatalities, the lowest in 68 days.
According to ANI, a seroprevalence study undertaken by the WHO and the AIIMS found that a third possible wave of the prevalent COVID-19 virus strain in India is unlikely to disproportionately afflict children over adults.
