Heavy rainfall over several parts of India in 6-7 days: IMD - India News

A low-pressure area over south Bangladesh and adjoining North Bay of Bengal and West Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain to several states across the country over the next few days. During the next 48 hours, it is expected to move westward across West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, according to the MeT department.

“The western end of the Monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through north of its normal position while its western end passes along normal position. An off-shore trough runs from south Gujarat coast to north Kerala coast. A cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan & adjoining Punjab in the lower levels. A line of convergence runs from the above cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab to south Gujarat across West Rajasthan at 3.1 km above mean sea level,” the IMD said in its forecast on Wednesday.

The current rainy spell, which includes isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, is expected to last until July 30 in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, according to the forecast.

Until July 30, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, according to the weather department, and until July 31 in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

On Thursday, isolated extremely heavy rains are expected over Gangetic West Bengal, on July 30 over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, and on July 31 over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

According to the IMD, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue until August 1 in East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, with the likelihood of increasing from July 30.

The MeT department has said that isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over West Madhya Pradesh on August 1. “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Konkan andGoa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra till August 1,” it added.
