According to police, one of the two terrorists killed in an overnight encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district was a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander who deserted the ranks of the Jammu and Kashmir Police about four years ago. In a similar operation two days ago, two local terrorists were killed in Srinagar.

Ishfaq Dar alias Abu Akram, one of the top LeT terrorists active in the region since 2017, was neutralised in a joint operation carried out by the police, army, and the Central Reserve Police Force, according to Kashmir police chief (IGP) Vijay Kumar (CRPF).

After receiving a tip about the presence of terrorists in the Check Sadiq Khan area of Shopian, the joint operation was launched. It quickly escalated into a shootout in which two terrorists were killed. A senior police officer stated, “The operation is still ongoing.”

Ishfaq Dar, also known as Abu Akram, was a former Jammu and Kashmir police officer who resigned in 2017.

Security forces neutralised two terrorists suspected of being involved in the killings of police officers and civilians in Srinagar on Friday at Alamdar Colony in the Danmar area of Srinagar.
