The Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company has innovated the state’s first extra high voltage GIS substation at Indore to provide strength and reliability to the transmission network of Indore metropolis.

The construction of Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation has been completed & with 50 MVA transformer sub station charged in the densely populated Mahalaxmi Nagar of Indore at an estimated cost of about 36.50 crores.

This is the first GIS of Madhya Pradesh connected to the transmission network of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company.
With the commissioning of this substation, the power transmission system in the eastern region of Indore has been strengthened, Indore has got another option of Extra high voltage substation.
State’s first GIS substation
Constructed in dense population
Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company, Er. Sunil Tiwari said that in view of the increasing demand for electricity in Indore, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company felt the need for construction of additional substations in Indore city.
Due to non availability of sufficient land for construction of conventional substation in dense population like Indore, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company has decided to devlope GIS (Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation)in Indore.

Since this was an innovation of the company, the Principal Secretary Energy Sanjay Dubey, being present himself, saw this arrangement, understood and gave necessary instructions.
Besides taking up less space in construction, there are other advantages as well.
Managing Director Sunil Tiwari said the construction of the GIS substation (Gas Insulated Switch Gear Substation) requires less land than conventional air insulated substations.

The budget for the construction of substations with this technology is about two and a half times more than that of conventional substations.
But Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company has approved this construction keeping in view the need of Indore, an important city of Madhya Pradesh.

These substations are also known colloquially as “maintenance free” substations due to presence of equipments contacts in gas insulated chambers.

In place of 13.5 kms. long feeder 33 KV Substation Mahalaxmi Nagar Indore is now get power supply will be from 20 meters

Managing Director Sunil Tiwari said with the start of this 132 KV GIS Sub station , the biggest beneficiary from the substation will be 33/11 KV Mahalaxmi Sub Station of West Zone Electricity Distribution Company. 33KV Mahalaxmi Nagar substation which was earlier receiving supply through 13.5 kms long 33 KV TulsiNagar feeder from 220 KV Substation Bicholi Mardana Indore East & 12 KM long 33 KV Sanchar Nagar feeder from 132 KV Sathyasai Substation, which will now be received supply from the GIS sub-station only through a very short feeder of 20 meters.

Due to which power interruption in the 33 KV line, trouble and delay in repairing work will be avoided. With this newly constructed substation Power can be supplied to a total of eight 33 KV feeders to the dense population of Indore .
