On Monday, June 7, 2021, the Income Tax Department introduced a new e-filing website for Income Tax Returns (ITRs). At http://www.incometax.gov.in, you can access the new e-filing portal. It includes new features that are supposed to make the ITR process go much more smoothly and quickly. Earlier in the day, the I-T Department reported that the new portal’s rollout is nearing completion. “We’re just as excited as our users about the new gateway! We are nearing the end of the new portal’s rollout, and it will be ready soon. We appreciate your patience as we endeavor to have it up and running as soon as possible,” they wrote in a tweet. Separately, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent a text message to all current taxpayers’ registered numbers. “Dear Taxpayer,” the letter begins. On the 7th of June, 2021, the Income Tax Department will debut its new e-filing platform http://www.incometax.gov.in.”
The previous portal http://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in was unavailable to taxpayers for six days from June 1-6, 2021, before the launch of the new platform. To minimize any difficulties during the phaseout period, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) asked taxpayers to complete any urgent duties involving any submission, upload, or download by June 1. (June 1-6). It had previously stated that it would not set any compliance dates during this time to avoid causing taxpayers any inconvenience.
