Due to a huge increase in COVID-19 cases across the state, the Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has agreed to close all schools for students up to class 8 from March 24 to March 3.
On Monday evening, an announcement was made in this respect. All other educational establishments that are not conducting exams will also be suspended for the period, according to the state government’s order.
The decision is being made in the wake of an increase in Covid-19 infections across the state and region. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting with officials held by the Chief Minister to tackle COVID-19.
Following an increase in COVID-19 regular cases throughout the region, many state governments have announced the closing of schools and colleges. According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 3,036 active coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh right now.
In the province, 8,759 people have died as a result of the outbreak, while 5,95,743 people have recovered. The Yogi Adityanath government released guidelines in February for the reopening of schools in Uttar Pradesh from 10 February to 1 March for students in grades 6 to 8, and from 10 February to 1 March for students in grades 1 to 5.
According to the Basic Education Department in Uttar Pradesh, classes were only held twice a week and only half of the students were permitted to attend.
