On Sunday, the BAFTA of The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards were held in London’s Royal Albert Hall, with Chinese director Chloe Zhao’s film Nomadland taking home the top prize. Nomadland won four BAFTAs, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Actress for Frances McDormand, marking a victory for female filmmakers. For his depiction of an elderly man suffering from memory loss in The Father, Indian actor Adarsh Gourav lost the Best Actor BAFTA to Hollywood legend Anthony Hopkins.

The White Tiger, which also stars Priyanka Chopra, who was a presenter at the BAFTA Awards, earned Adarsh Gourav a nomination.

The White Tiger was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, but The Father took home the award.

In the meantime, critically acclaimed films like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Rocks, and Sound Of Metal each took home two awards. Tenet, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Mank, a biographical thriller, both took home a prize.

The BAFTA awards were presented in London over two days, on April 10 and 11. The winners were announced on Sunday night by presenters including Priyanka Chopra, Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Grant, Felicity Jones, Jonathan Pryce, and Renee Zellweger, among others.

With six nominations, including best picture, best director, and best actress, Nomadland is one of the frontrunners for this month’s Academy Awards. It won the prestigious Golden Globe awards for best drama film and best director last month.
