Kangana Ranaut, who turns 34 today, posted the trailer for her upcoming film Thalaivi, which chronicles Jayalalithaa’s rise to stardom as an actress before embarking on a powerful political career.

The three-and-a-half-minute video starts with Jayalalithaa’s early years in the film industry. 


The trailer also touched on her relationship with MG Ramachandran (MGR), who was like a mentor to Jayalalithaa and was played by Arvind Swami. The trailer’s second half reflects on the late leader’s past, detailing how she entered politics and rose to prominence.

To summarise, the trailer follows Jayalalithaa’s journey from a superstar actress to a powerful woman. It focuses on “the well-known narrative”.


Kangana Ranaut, who won her fourth National Film Award on Monday for her roles in the 2019 films Panga and Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, shared the film’s much-anticipated trailer, writing: “The Iron lady of India who dedicated her entire life to the betterment of her own country.” She began as an actress who the public adored and progressed to becoming a leader who was loved by the masses”.

Kangana Ranaut underwent a dramatic body transformation for her appearance as Jayalalithaa, gaining approximately 20 kilograms for the film. A day before the film’s trailer was released, the actress shared her journey in the form of these images.

Thalaivi is scheduled to enter theatres on April 23 this year. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, the film is directed by Vijay and co-produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh.
