To love animals and pets particularly nobody needs a day but here it is, February 20 is celebrated as National Love Your Pet Day in the west and no, it’s not a corporate creation done by companies who manufacture pet toys and food.

Twitter has been flooded with pictures of pets, and its families and the hashtag #LoveYourPetDay is being witnessed as trending.

According to internet sources, the exact origin of the day is not known, or at least nobody can ‘pin’ exclusive ownership of the event. It appears it began to be celebrated on a widespread scale in the early 2000’s. It’s possible it grew out of some sort of animal or pet promotion. Regardless, it’s observed by thousands of pet owners across America.

As per the sources, in 2017, Americans spent over $70 million on various products for their pets. As for which pets are the most popular, and estimated 60 million households own at least one dog, 47 million own a cat, 12 million own some sort of freshwater fish, and 8 million have some sort of bird or birds.

On February 20th, pet lovers everywhere observe National Love Your Pet Day. This holiday is a day set aside to give extra attention to and pamper your pets. This is a good day to focus on the special relationship that you have with your pets.

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet? While there are more cats than dogs in the United States, more households have dogs than cats, but not by much. Pets are not limited to the canine and feline categories.

There are quite a few who prefer the companionship of birds, reptiles, fish or rats.
