Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought cooperation of every citizen for water conservation under Jalabhishek Abhiyan.

He said lakes and ponds are an integral part of our culture.

Chouhan launched Jal Abhishek Abhiyan at Jal Sansad organized in Kahula village of Garatganj tehsil of Raisen district.

He said for thousands of year water conservation is given special focus in Indian culture.

Our great rulers built ponds, wells, stepwells in their states, he said.

Today it is our duty not only to preserve them but also to carry forward that tradition, he said.

Chouhan said as per the resolution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this year more than 5000 Amrit Sarovars will be built in the state.

The work of Amrit Sarovars will be completed by June this year or by March next year. The government has plan worth Rs 350 crore plan to save 10000 old ponds in the state. For water conservation, the work of conserving a large number of small water structures will also be done, the chief minister said.

He honored three out of 551 water warriors who built ponds in their agriculture fields for water harvesting.

He administered oath to save water to those present in the Jal Sansad.

He sai d it is necessary to save water in order to save the earth.

The natural imbalance is being caused due to excessive exploitation of ground water.

If water exits we exist, without water no one will exist. Our biggest duty is to stop the rain water and increase the water level of the earth by planting more and more trees. We must make people aware about water conservation, he said.

He said pipelines are being laid in the state to provide water in every household through taps.

In the coming two-three years, every household will have access to tap water.

So far water has reached 48 lakh houses in the state from taps, he said.

In the coming time, water will be supplied to more than one crore houses through taps, he informed.

Today every panchayat of the state is involved in this programme. I request everyone with folded hands to join the Jalabhishek campaign to save water in your village, he said.

He planting trees is also very necessary to save rain water. I plant a tree every da, you must also plant a tree at least once in a year. Trees bring good rain and they also raise the ground water level, he said.
