Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan, a BJP Lok Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa region, died at a Gurugram hospital on Tuesday. He was 69 years old. Last Monday night, reports said, the six-term MP, who had suffered from COVID-19, and flew to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram last month under grave conditions.

Chouhan has been on ventilator support for the past two days. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan had previously visited the BJP MP in the health center to lookup him. Nandkumar Singh Chauhan entered politics in 1978 as a member of the Shahpur Municipal Council and later became an MLA. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1996, when he was elected to the Lok Sabha. In 1998, 1999, 2004, 2014, and 2019, he was re-elected.

His wife, son, and two daughters survive him. His final rites will be held on Wednesday at his native home of Shahpur in Burhanpur district, according to his son Harshvardhan Chauhan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to Chauhan’s family. “Saddened by the demise of Lok Sabha MP from Khandwa Shri Nandkumar Singh Chauhan Ji,” he tweeted. “He will be remembered for his contributions to Parliamentary proceedings, organisational skills and efforts to strengthen the BJP across Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti.” Other top leaders of BJP, including Home Minister Amit Shah and its national chairman J P Nadda also expressed their sorrow at his demise.
