A Congress spokesperson claimed the party is ‘sensitive’ towards cow-related issues and would take such actions in the future too. This is the first incident in which police have charged those accused of cow slaughter with NSA.

The police said that the National Security Act (NSA) was brought forward on Tuesday against three persons accused of illegal cow slaughter in the communally sensitive Khandwa town of Madhya Pradesh.

“Police got the information three days earlier that some people are involved in cow slaughter near Moghat. When the police arrived, the accused ran away from the spot. But we found the cow carcass,” SP Siddharth Bahuguna said.

The three accused men escaped after killing the cows with large knife at night, the incident took place on Friday in Khandwa. The NSA has been summoned by police against the accused with the consent of the district administration.

“After a detailed investigation, three persons named Raju, Shakil and Azam have been arrested. Of the three, one has a record of involvement in cow slaughter,” Bahuguna added.

BJP spokesperson Rajneesh Agrawal told Hindustan Times on Tuesday that the Congress is following in the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s footsteps.

“On Monday, they were produced before a local court, which sentenced them to jail under the NSA and other relevant sections of the IPC,” reported Mohan Singore.

Rajneesh Agrawal to HT, “the Congress government is merely trying to follow the actions of the previous BJP state government in view of the Lok Sabha elections.”

This is the first incident in which police have charged those accused of cow slaughter with NSA.
