New Delhi, India: Paralympian Deepa Malik and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), a political party’s MLA Kehar Singh Rawat joined BJP on Monday.

Deepa Malik, who on Monday joined BJP is the first woman athlete to have won the medal (Silver) in Paralympics.

On September 2016, Deepa Malik, who hails from Haryana became the first Indian woman athlete to win a medal at Paralympics in the women’s shot put event at the Rio Games.

“Prime Minister and his government have been supportive towards disabled section, their attention is commendable. They framed policies for Divyangs which also impacted the sports policies. I prepared for the Olympics without any discrimination. I have not seen such empowerment of Divyangs before,” Malik said speaking at a BJP press conference.

“I feel that this is the right ideology for the nation. I can contributeton nation building keeping this ideology,” she added.

Sitting INLD MLA from Haryana, Rawat said, “I have been in politics for the last 27 years. For the betterment of Haryana, I have given many suggestions to the government for the last four years related to issues in my constituency.”

“The government acted on it and carried out development work in my region. I really got inspired by this and quit INLD,” he added.

Both Malik and Rawat joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s Haryana unit chief Subhash Barala and general secretary Anil Jain, reported ANI.

The 10 Lok Sabha seats of Haryana will go to Lok Sabha polls on May 12. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
