With the number of COVID-19 cases increasingly increasing across the world, the Centre lashed out at the Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh governments on Wednesday (April 7) for allegedly failing to monitor the spread of infection in their respective states.

The claims of vaccine shortages, according to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, are completely false and are an effort by state governments to divert attention away from their own shortcomings.

Deplorable attempts by some state governments to distract attention from their failures and spread panic among the people,” Dr Harsh Vardhan was quoted as saying by ANI.

“I have seen statements made by public representatives in Maharashtra about the shortage of vaccines. This is nothing but an attempt to divert attention from Maharashtra government’s repeated failures to control the spread of a pandemic,” he added

“I’ve seen legislators in Maharashtra make remarks about vaccine shortages. This is nothing more than an excuse to deflect attention away from Maharashtra’s repeated attempts to contain the pandemic’s spread,” he said.

“The Maharashtra government’s inability to behave properly is beyond comprehension. Spreading hysteria among the populace further adds to the stupidity. Vaccine stocks are tracked in real-time, and state governments are kept informed on a daily basis, according to Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

He went on to say that the Maharashtra government’s success in terms of vaccinating healthcare and frontline staff has been poor and that it was surprising to see how the state government is endangering Maharashtrians by allowing citizens to avoid institutional quarantine mandates for the sake of their “personal Vasuli.”
