Mayawati, the leader of the BSP, said today that if the Central government takes positive efforts to conduct a census of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), her party will support it both in Parliament and outside.
Her comments follow Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s request for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to discuss the contentious subject of a caste-based census, which the Centre has suggested exclusively for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
“BSP has been demanding census of OBCs in the country. If the central government takes any positive step in this direction, BSP will definitely support it both inside and outside the Parliament,” Mayawati said in a tweet in Hindi.
