The Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominated MP Abhishek Banerjee as the party’s national general secretary on Saturday, in a major organizational upheaval. Abhishek Banerjee, a Lok Sabha MP representing Diamond Harbour, is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Following the TMC’s resounding victory in the recently ended West Bengal Assembly election, the decision was made during the first meeting of the TMC’s working committee. According to West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee, the Trinamool Congress has resolved to expand its organizational reach beyond West Bengal.

TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been named the party’s Mahila Morcha president, while MP Dola Sen has been named the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress’s national president (INTTUC).

In the wake of reports that some TMC members who defected before the polls wish to rejoin the party, Chatterjee clarified that there was no discussion about turncoats.
Several former TMC figures, including Sonali Guha, TMC supremo’s former aide, and other turncoats Sarala Murmu and Amal Acharya, who defected to the BJP before the state assembly elections, have stated their willingness to rejoin the ruling party.
Guha apologized to Banerjee for leaving the party in a letter dated May 23.”I seek your forgiveness and if you don’t forgive me, I won’t be able to live. Please allow me to come back, and spend the rest of my life in your affection,” Guha said in the letter.
