According to a report released on Sunday, Bikaner in Rajasthan will be the first town in the country to launch a “door-to-door” vaccination campaign in the ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic. During the drive in Bikaner, people over the age of 45 will be given the Covid-19 vaccine.

According to Live Hindustan, the Rajasthan government has established a helpline where people can register for the Covid-19 vaccine by providing their name and address via WhatsApp. It added that two ambulances and three mobile teams had been dispatched to Bikaner for the vaccination drive.

According to the report, the vaccine van will only arrive at people’s homes if a minimum of 10 people sign up for the Covid-19 vaccine, in order to avoid wasting doses. From a vial of Covid-19 vaccine, ten people can receive one dose each. The vaccine van will then move to a new location, but a medical team will remain behind to monitor those who have been vaccinated.

There are 16 urban primary health centres in Bikaner, which is about 340 kilometres from the state capital of Jaipur. Furthermore, officials at these health centres will keep track of the team that is participating in the vaccination drive in their area.

Experts predict a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Bikaner district magistrate Namit Mehta. “Our goal is to administer the vaccine to 75 per cent of people over the age of 45. Therefore, this process of giving the vaccine at home can prove to be very effective,” Namit Mehta said.

According to the 2011 Census, Bikaner has a population of over 700,000 people, and the vaccine has been administered to 369,000 people in the city.

According to an official report, Rajasthan recorded 368 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the total number of infections to 949,376 and the death toll to 8815.

Three of the new deaths were reported from Jodhpur, according to the report. The maximum number of new cases were reported from Jaipur, 40 from Alwar, and 28 from Bikaner. According to the data, 932,161 people have recovered from Covid-19 in Rajasthan so far, with 8400 cases still active.
