Experts, policy-makers, researchers and stakeholders brainstorming sessions on significant road safety issues and strategy on the theme “Zero Road Accident Future” at the three-day 1st Vision Zero Summit 2023 on Road Safety at Bhopal. The Summit took place from 29 to 31 May.

The last day of the conference saw a discussion on the topic “Designing Streets for People”. The session was moderated by Dr. Rahul Tiwari, in which the speakers shared expertise and insights. Dr. Kshama Puntambekar, SPA Bhopal highlighted the concept of “liveable roads” and emphasized on the importance of “keeping an eye on the road” to enhance road safety. Dr. Manoranjan Parida, CRRI Delhi discussed IRC standards and road design principles to promote safe and efficient urban transport. Dr. Manoj Nagar from AIIMS Bhopal stressed the importance of “Golden Hour”, availability of first response in saving lives and reducing the impact of road accidents.

In the panel discussion at the conference, ADGP MP G. Janardhan, Dr. Manoranjan Parida from CRRI New Delhi, Dr. Roshan Jose from Save Life Foundation Mumbai, Dr. Alka Bharat and Dr. Yogesh Garg from MANIT. The possibilities of technological innovation to reduce road accidents and promote road safety were discussed. During the summit, participants came up with meaningful interactions, shared knowledge and proposed actionable solutions for road safety.

In the closing ceremony, Additional Chief Secretary Home Dr. Rajesh Rajaura, Director of MANIT Dr. K.K. Shukla, Transport Commissioner S.K. Jha, Head of Department of Architecture and Planning, MANIT Jagdish Singh and Conference Secretary Dr. Rahul Tiwari.
