On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the Seventh International Yoga Day. Due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the main event of the International Yoga Day in 2021 will be a televised programme that will begin at 6.30 a.m. on all Doordarshan channels.

According to government release, the event will also feature a talk from Ayush Minister of State Kiren Rijiju and a live yoga demonstration from Morarji Desai’s National Yoga Institute.

This live yoga demonstration will be further followed by messages from 15 spiritual leaders and Yoga Gurus namely – Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Dr HR Nagendra, Kamlesh Patel, Dr Veerendra Hegde, Dr Hamsaji Jayadeva, OP Tiwari, Swami Chidanand Saraswati, Dr Chinmay Pandya, Muni Shri Sagar Maharaj, Swami Bharat Bhushan, Dr Vishwas Mandalik, Sister BK Shivani, S Sridharan and Antoinette Rozi, the release further said.

According to the United Nations website, the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Well-Being,’ which focuses on how yoga can help people achieve holistic health.

Despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the Ayush ministry, along with nearly 1,000 other stake-holding institutions, has taken a number of digital initiatives to make yoga accessible to the general public. In the run-up to International Yoga Day in their respective countries, Indian missions in other countries are coordinating a variety of activities.

This year’s event will feature a large number of people participating in a peaceful yoga demonstration/performance at 7 a.m.
