Brett Lee, a cricketer-turned-commentator, has come to India’s aid in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic’s second wave, following in the footsteps of fellow Australian pacer Pat Cummins. The 44-year-old, who is currently in India for the IPL 2021, announced on Twitter that he will be contributing one Bitcoin to assist with “the procurement of oxygen supply for hospitals across India.”

It’s worth noting that 1 Bitcoin is roughly 40,95,991 Indian Rupees. Cummins announced earlier on Monday that he would be contributing $50,000 to the ‘PM Cares Fund’ for a related cause.

“India has always been like a second home for me. The love and affection that I have got from the people of this country both during my professional career and even after my retirement, holds a special place in my heart. It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic,” Lee wrote in a tweet.

“I feel privileged to be in a position of making a difference and with that in mind, I’d like to donate 1 BTC (Bitcoin) to Crypto Relief to help with the purchase of oxygen supplies for the hospitals across India,” he added.

Lee has emphasized the importance of taking all precautions and following the instructions in his letter to his Indian fans in order to reduce the number of incidents. He advised everyone to wash their hands, put on masks, and just go outside if absolutely necessary.

Facing an acute shortage of medical supplies, India has been receiving plenty of foreign aid. The United Kingdom’s help arrived on Tuesday, which included 100 ventilators and 95 Oxygen concentrators

On Monday, India reported over 3.52 lakh cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to over 1.73 crores. About 2800 people died as a result of the outbreak, bringing the total number of people who died to over 1.95 lakh. Over 3 lakh cases have been reported daily in India, with hospitals and states claiming a shortage of oxygen and other critical medicines.
