Burhanpur women of Madhya Pradesh are the happiest to have received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence for the best performance in the country in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, presented the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence to Burhanpur Collector Sushri Bhavya Mittal at a grand ceremony on Civil Services Day in New Delhi today. It is the result of cooperation and coordination between the government and the citizens. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has continuously encouraged innovation in development programmes and processes.

The Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence is no less than a unique gift for the women of Burhanpur. Rekha Suresh Soni of Bahadarpur village, 8 km from the district headquarters, recalls her difficult times and says that she had come to this village in the year 2000 as a daughter-in-law. Due to the problem of water, no one was ready to initiate a marriage proposal in this village. Water had to be brought from a long distance. But now, due to the efforts of Shivraj ji and Modi ji, our village has started getting plenty of water. The whole village has also become green. Everyone is getting clean water. Health problems are also decreasing. The time which used to be spent earlier in fetching water is now being used for other works. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has done a very good job for us.

Deepika Shyam Soni of the same village tells that there were many problems related to water in the village. New daughters-in-law also had to fetch water from far away wells. Now with the availability of water, our major problem has been solved. Savita Pramod Sagar, sarpanch of Bambhada Gram Panchayat, 17 km away from the district headquarters, expressed happiness telling that now there is no dearth of water unlike before when there was a lot of water crisis here. Water has reached every house. The government has made a very good arrangement for water in our village. On behalf of all the villagers and Gram Panchayat, we express our gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. Priyanka Khadse of the same village tells that she used to worry every day that she would have to go to fetch water in the morning. Many working women used to get late for work as they had to go far to fetch water. Now many things have become easier.
