Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the works of Mahakal Maharaj Temple Corridor being developed in Ujjain must be finalized and completed soon.

In view of Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate the works to be undertaken in Mahakal Maharaj Kshetra Vistar Yojna, therefore all works must be done by May end.

The chief minister held a meeting with senior officers in Bhopal and deliberated on the ongoing preparations made by various departments. Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains besides senior administrative officers were present.

In meeting with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on April 23, Chouhan told he has invited the Prime Minister to dedicate the Mahakal Corridor.

He (the prime minsiter) will be coming to Ujjain in the month of June for this purpose, Chouhan said.

Along with this, discussions have also been held with the Prime Minister regarding various welfare schemes in Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister was also informed about Madhya Pradesh’s startup policy, creation of Amrit Sarovar, diversification of crops, oilseeds development, efforts made for export of Sharbati wheat of Madhya Pradesh to other countries, and initiatives taken for the promotion of natural farming. Concerned departments should be proactive in implementing these priorities and other flagship schemes.

In January 2021, Chouhan reportedly gave nod for Rs.500 crore project to develop area around Mahakal Temple in Ujjain city. The development work is to be done in 70 meter area of the pilgrim centre.

He then announced that there will be no shortage of funds for the development work.

The glory of Mahakaleshwar temple has been vividly described in various Purans – ancient texts. Starting with Kalidasa, many sanskrit poets have eulogized this temple in emotive terms.

Ujjain used to be the central point for calculation of Indian time and Mahakala was considered as the distinctive presiding deity of Ujjain.
