The second wave of coronavirus is wreaking havoc in India. About 3.5 lakh new cases are recorded every day in India, with over 2000 people dying as a result of the virus. The pandemic has put a strain on the country’s medical system, with hospitals facing oxygen and bed shortages.

China suspends cargo flights to India

Despite Beijing’s announcement on Monday that it was able to meet any particular request from India in the war against the Covid-19 outbreak, state-owned Sichuan Airlines has suspended cargo flights to India for 15 days, citing the pandemic crisis, which is likely to stymie private companies’ attempts to procure medical supplies from China.

“China firmly supports India in fighting against COVID-19. We will encourage and guide Chinese companies to actively participate into the cooperation in facilitating various needed medical supplies for India,” the Chinese ambassador to India later tweeted.

India to receive first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine

On May 1, India will receive the first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, according to Kirill Dmitriev, the director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

He did not specify how many vaccines would be used in the first batch or where they would be manufactured.

In the midst of a second wave of the pandemic, India is battling rising coronavirus infections that are causing hospitals to overflow. The United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States have all promised to send immediate medical assistance.

First Oxygen Express reached Delhi with 70 tonnes

The first Oxygen Express train for Delhi arrived in the city early Tuesday morning, bringing about 70 tonnes of life-saving gas. The Delhi government will now distribute the oxygen to numerous hospitals.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, said, “International cooperation at work! Appreciate the shipment of vital medical supplies from United Kingdom including 100 ventilators and 95 oxygen concentrators that arrived early this morning.”
