A Covid-19 vaccination center will open in Lucknow’s Eidgah on Thursday, with the ability to inoculate at least 400 beneficiaries in the 18- to 45-year-old age groups. According to health department officials, this will be the city’s second-largest vaccination center in terms of capacity, with the largest being at the civil hospital.

“The dry run on Wednesday was a success. The vaccination center will be operational as of Thursday noon, according to Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, Imam Eidgah, who approached the health department with the offer to use a vacant room on the Eidgah premises as a vaccination center.

“The vaccination center was founded by the health department at the LDA Colony in Aishbagh. The room there was limited, so we offered our place, which was accepted,” explained the cleric.

Two vaccine booths will be operational at first. One will cater to people aged 18 to 44, and the other will cater to people aged 45 and up. “The facility has the capacity to vaccinate over 400 people in a single day,” the cleric said.

However, walk-in vaccinations will not be accessible at this location. “Only those who have reserved a slot on the Cowin app will get their dose,” Mahali said.

Amit Mohan Prasad, the additional chief secretary of the health department in Uttar Pradesh, said on Wednesday that over 15.4 million vaccine doses had been administered in the province, including the first dose to more than 12.1 million and the second dose to more than 3.2 million beneficiaries.

On Wednesday, Lucknow reported 493 new Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths, while the state-wide Covid count increased by 7,336 new cases to 1,644,851.
