The cyber police in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh has taken up investigation into a fake group created on WhatsApp carrying photo of Jabalpur district collector Dr. Ilayaraja T.
An FIR is registered in the Omti Police Station of Jabalpur on complaint of District Programme Officer Manoharlal Mehra into the matter.
According to the Omti Police Station Incharge SPS Baghel, the FIR is registered on basis of a complaint received from DPO Manoharlal Mehra about receiving message to add other officers of the district in the group on WhatsApp carrying photo of the district collector.
The officer believing the social media group a real one acted as per the message and added other officers of the district on the group, the police said.
After sometime a message demanding money was received on the group, the officer suspected of some foul play, the police said.
The complainant officer Mehra contacted the district collector and told about a message on the group and later a complaint was filed with the police, the police said.
The police have registered a complaint under section 419 and sections 66 of IT Act against the unknown person.
