Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding cows and bovines across the state, promising increased funds for the efficient operation of cow shelters.

He emphasized ongoing discussions to enhance cow management strategies and pledged the utilization of modern equipment to tackle encroachments on Charnoi land, provide prompt treatment for cows involved in accidents every 50 kilometers, and prevent cattle from obstructing roads.

Subsidies for fodder-cutting equipment and support for Panchayats via the Cow Promotion Board were also assured. Additionally, funding for cow shelters would be raised from Rs 20 to Rs 40 per cow, with efforts to complete unfinished shelters and construct new ones.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav made these remarks during the concluding session of the “Stakeholder Workshop on Better Management of Cow Shelters in Madhya Pradesh” – “Gauraksha Samvad” at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav underscored the profound understanding of cow herders regarding the significance of cows, highlighting the sacred nature of cow rearing and cowshed management in the country.

He advocated for cow rearing at home if space permits, emphasizing its importance as a noble endeavor. Dr. Yadav shared his family’s tradition of caring for cows, with his father continuing to serve aged cows, reflecting the revered status of cows akin to mothers.

He emphasized the longstanding agricultural and husbandry traditions and pledged state government efforts to enhance milk production while promoting self-reliance in cow sheds. Stressing the unique role of cow sanctuaries,

Dr. Yadav emphasized their development into well-equipped shelters. In response to cows sitting on roads, the Council of Ministers convened to discuss pre-monsoon arrangements, with further deliberations in today’s workshop.

Dr. Yadav commended participants for their contributions and also mentioned the formation of a Council of Ministers Committee regarding Devasthans.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated the concluding session of Gauraksha Samvad by lighting the lamp amidst chanting of mantras.

In the workshop held today, four groups were formed and discussions were held on better management of destitute cattle and cow sheds by subject experts, cow shed operators, cow herders and administrative officials.

On this occasion, Akhileshwaranand Giri, Gopalanand Saraswati Ji Maharaj, former MP Meghraj Jain, Principal Secretary Gulshan Bawra, Director Animal Husbandry and Managing Director Madhya Pradesh Cow Promotion Board and other officials were present.

Former MP from Gujarat and Chairman Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog Vallabhbhai Katheria presented his book ‘Kalyan Gau-Seva’ edition to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav.

Panchayat and Rural Development and Labour Minister Prahlad Patel said that he himself is a cow-herder which is why he has a special connection with this workshop.

Today I got an opportunity to know the thoughts and suggestions of many experts in this field. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav has fulfilled the Cabinet’s resolve on the important subject related to cow rearing.

The recommendations received in the workshop are useful. Necessary decisions related to these have been taken by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav.

Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Lakhan Patel informed about the suggestions presented in the workshop.

He said that the concrete suggestions received will also be implemented.

Major announcements made by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

  • Cow shelters operating in the state will be rewarded for their best performance.
  • Indian New Year i.e. from this Chaitra month till the next year the Gauvansh Raksha year will be celebrated
  • Encroachments will be removed from Charnoi land.
  • As cows become victims of road accidents, arrangements will be made every 50 kilometers to ensure that the injured cows can be easily taken for treatment. Arrangements for hydraulic cattle lifting vehicles will be made under toll system.
  • An amount of Rs 40 will be payable to cow shelters instead of Rs 20 per cow.
  • Provision will be made for subsidy on equipment used for cutting fodder or straw. For this, necessary support will be provided to the Panchayats.
  • Construction of incomplete cow sheds will be completed for which funds from MNREGA will also be used. New cow shelters will also be started.
  • Gauvansh Vihars will be developed.
