A sub-postmaster allegedly bets depositors’ money around Rs 1.25 crore in parts on IPL in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.

Vishal Ahirwar (36), a sub postmaster of the post office located in the railway premises in Sagar was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on basis of the complaints received from certain depositors against him for not encash their fixed deposits on completion of term.

The depositors were shocked when the post office employees informed them that their accounts details are not available in the records, GRP police station incharge Ajay Dhurve said.

Later the depositors approach the higher postal authorities and on inquiry Ahirwar was then suspended, thereafter the depositors approached the police against him, he said.

Ahirwar told the police during interrogation divulged of betting the depositor’s money in the IPL expecting better returns, the official said.

The sub postmaster is booked under provisions of sections 420, 408 of IPC, the official said.
