Fog safety device put in use by the WCR in operation of trains in current winter season

The latest technical facilities are being used in the West Central Railway Zone for safety and security in trains operation during fog in the winter.

Fog safety devices (FSD) are installed by the railways administration on railway sections affected by the fog so that the trains do not get delayed due to fog. A total of 1032 fog safety devices have been provided in all the three divisions of West Central Railway Zone including 338 FSD in Jabalpur division, 291 FSD in Bhopal division and 403 FSD in Kota division. With the availability of this fog safety device, loco pilots are getting immense help in fog affected sections. This device is certified by RDSO Lucknow.

It is noteworthy that Fog Safety Device is a device that works on GPS technology. With the help of this device, the maximum permissible speed (MPS) of trains can be maintained continuously.

This device is enabled with GPS technology and GPS is linked to the railway track map, signal, station and railway crossing information. This system keeps the loco pilot informed about level crossings and signals during running of train. While running the train, when the loco pilot gets to know from the FSD that there is no further problem on the track, the loco pilot increases the speed of the train accordingly.

Using FSD will increase the speed of trains, which will make it easier for passengers to reach their destinations on time and avoid problems due to late arrivals.
