Commissioner State Election Commission Basant Pratap Singh has informed for the first time in the civic body elections, provision has been made for the election expenditure account for the candidates contesting for post of councilors.

In past, the election expenditure account of the candidates contesting for the post of mayor and president was there.

The instructions have also been given to set up a help desk in the Returning Officer’s office to supervise the maintenance of election expenditure accounts of the contesting candidates in the civic body elections.

State Election Commission secretary Rakesh Singh has informed the maximum limit for election expenditure for the candidates contesting election for councilor posts, according to Census 2011 in Municipal Corporation, will be Rs. 8.75 lakh for population above 10 lakh population and Rs. 3.75 lakh for population less than 10 lakh population.

Similarly, in the municipalities the election expenditure limit is Rs. 2.50 lakh for a population of more than 1 lakh, expenditure limit of Rs. 1.50 lakh for a population of 50000 to 1 lakh and the maximum expenditure limit for the election expenditure of councilors for population less than 50000 is Rs. 1 lakh.

The maximum expenditure limit for candidates contesting for elections of councillors of Nagar Palika will be Rs.75000, the official note said.

For post of Mayor in municipal corporations, election expenditure limit of Rs. 35 lakh for civic body with population more than 10 lakh and maximum expenditure limit of Rs. 15 lakh for cadidates contesting for post of may in civic bodies having population less than 10 lakhs.
