The Madhya Pradesh Government will withdraw the petty criminal cases registered against the residents during COVID lockdown across the state.

According to the advisory of the Union Home Ministry and instructions given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the review meeting of the Home Department, it has been decided to withdraw all petty criminal cases registered during the Covid lockdown in the larger public interest. An order in this regard will be issued soon.

It is noteworthy that cases were registered against the common people under sections 188, 269, 270, 271 of the Indian Penal Code, Epidemic Act 1897 and Disaster Management Act 2005 for not following the Covid lockdown. In the first lockdown in the state, during the period from March 20 to June 30, 2020, 32 thousand 463 cases were registered under section 188 of the IPC and 669 cases under the Epidemic Act.

In the second lockdown, during the period from March 13 to June 19, 2021, 22 thousand 336 cases were registered under Section 188 of IPC and 1,202 cases were registered under Epidemic Act.
