A special project is going on for the treatment of sickle cell among Baiga and Bharia, the special backward tribes living in four districts of Dindori, Mandla, Chhindwara and Shahdol. This project is collaboration with AYUSH Department.

A door-to-door screening test was conducted for the identification of sickle cell anaemia by the Government Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital under the Department of AYUSH.

More than 23000 tribal people were tested.

After testing, 2138 tribal people tested positive with sickle cell disease. When these patients were re-tested, the disease was confirmed in 1656 people.

Homeopathic medicines were given to the affected persons by the research team.

Affected persons have benefited after taking medicine regularly. The problem of blood loss and pain persisted in the affected persons.

The patients were cured by taking the medicines.

These patients needed to be given blood transfusions from time to time which is no longer needed. Along with this, their immunity has also increased.

The linkage work of all sickle cell patients in the project districts with the nearest health centre has been completed.

With this, the patients are also getting the benefit of other schemes of the state and central governments.

In the project, the patients who are being given homeopathic medicines, their current lifestyle is also being studied regularly by the research team. The project of Homeopathy Medical College is being assisted by World Health Organisation, AIIMS, ICMR, Indian Institute of Science and Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal for research work.
