There is a need to work for the prosperity of street vendors from PM Swanidhi. Municipal bodies and bankers should work together to make street vendors self-employed, self-reliant and prosperous.

Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad said this in the zonal conference of PM Swanidhi held at Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Center Bhopal. Officers from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh governments participated in the Zonal Conference.

Street vendors should not be compelled to visit banks too often

Karad said that it should be ensured that the street vendors do not have to go to the bank. Loans should be made available to them on time. After giving loans to street vendors, bankers should also give training on digital transactions.

They should also be given UPI sound box.

He told that the PM Swanidhi Yojana started from June 1, 2020, 5 thousand registrations were being done daily in August-2020. Now the number has reached to 25 thousand daily.

Reviewing the progress of PM Swanidhi Yojana in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, he said that the set targets should be achieved by 30 September.

Karad gave loan cheques of Rs.50,000 each to Priya Joshi, Ravindra and Mukesh Uike, Rs.20,000 to Sushri Deepa and Rs.10,000 to Sohit Pal under PM Swanidhi Yojana.

He also distributed UPI sound boxes to the beneficiaries and visited the exhibition put-up by the street vendors.

Loan distributed to 8 lakh 33 thousand street vendors in the state

Commissioner Urban Administration and Development Bharat Yadav said that loans have been distributed to 8 lakh 33 thousand street vendors against the target of 11 lakh 10 thousand, in the state so far.

Madhya Pradesh is among the leading states in the implementation of the scheme.

The state is at number-1 till the month of June and at present it is at number two.

Better work is being done in all the components of the scheme.

He informed that digital transactions are conducted by more than 2 lakh 92 thousand urban street vendors. As a result, street vendors have received cashback of more than Rs 8 crore 21 lakh.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Rahul Kapoor said that about 43 lakh street vendors have been benefited from the PM Swanidhi Yojana in the country.

Action is being taken on more than 25 thousand applications everyday.

This momentum has to be maintained in the future as well. In the workshop, Arvind Menon said that PM Swanidhi is a scheme to bring revolutionary changes in the lives of street vendors.

Doubts of bankers and civic body officials were also resolved in the meeting.
