Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan has directed all the collectors and district election officers to make proper arrangements for protection from extreme heat (heat stroke) in all the polling stations.

He said that arrangements should also be made for pure drinking water and adequate chairs and benches for voters in the polling stations.

Rajan has given instructions to install sheds in polling stations to protect voters from sunlight.

He has said that medical kits should also be kept in every polling station. After discussion with the Chief Medical and Health Officer, all necessary medicines useful during summers should be provided in the medical kit.

All polling parties should also have ORS packets and leaflets with ‘Do’s and Don’ts to protect themselves from extreme heat.

Along with all the necessary medicines, appropriate number of para-medical staff should be also deployed in the Sector Officer’s vehicle.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan said that as per the election schedule of Lok Sabha Elections-2024, the nomination papers received for the first phase were scrutinized today.

During this period, nomination papers of a total of 107 candidates were found valid while the papers of six candidates were found invalid.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajan said that in the scrutiny of nomination papers on March 28, the nomination papers of 20 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 11 Sidhi, 10 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 12 Shahdol (ST), 21 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 13 Jabalpur, 16 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 14 Mandla (ST), 17 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 15 Balaghat and 23 candidates in Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency No. 16 Chhindwara have been found valid.

Rajan said that the candidates who have filed nominations for the first phase will be able to withdraw their names till Saturday, March 30.

Voting for the first phase will take place on Friday, April 19.

Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
