The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore (Karnataka) has sentenced M.H.Thangal, then Deputy Superintending Horticulturist,  Archaeological Survey of India, Mysore to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.3,50,00,000 and his wife Machamthui Charenamei to undergo three years simple imprisonment with fine of Rs.1,00,000 for possessing disproportionate assets.

CBI had registered the case on 13.08.2019 against the accused on the allegations that he enriched himself illicitly during the period from 01.01.2012 to 14.08.2019 and was found in possession of assets to the tune of Rs.3,11,94,005 (approx) which was disproportionate to  his known sources of income by 103%.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the said public servant and his wife. The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
