As India battles the second wave of deadly COVID-19, many states and union territories have extended the coronavirus-induced lockdown or curfew to prevent the virus from spreading.

According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India recorded over 2,57,299 new infections and 4,194 deaths in the last 24 hours on Saturday (May 22, 2021).

The estimated number of cases in the world is currently 2,62,89,290, with 2,95,525 people dying from the virus and 2,30,70,365 recovering.

List of states that have imposed lockdowns

Kerala

The Kerala government declared on Friday (May 21, 2021) that the state-wide lockdown would be extended until May 30 in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state has been under lockout since May 8, 2021, after previous weekend controls and lockdown-like curbs struggled to have the desired effect on the everyday caseload of contaminated people.

Kerala recorded 29,673 cases and 142 deaths on Friday. On Friday, the state’s overall positivity score was 23.23 percent.

Karnataka 

The Karnataka government extended the state-wide COVID-19 lockout until June 7 for another two weeks on Friday (May 21, 2021). Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced the decision on Friday, saying it was reached after a meeting with officials and ministers. Karnataka imposed COVID-19 lockout for the first time on May 10, 2021.

Karnataka confirmed 32,218 cases and 353 deaths on Friday. In 27 of the state’s 30 districts, the positivity score has surpassed 20%.

Goa

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declared on Friday (May 21, 2021) that the state government is extending its current COVID-19 restrictions until May 31.

Following a state cabinet meeting, the Goa chief minister said, “We are extending the state curfew until May 31.” Norms will remain the same.” Previously, the authorities had instituted a 15-day curfew beginning May 9, 2021.

Goa confirmed 1,625 cases and 30 deaths on Friday. On Friday, the state’s positivity score was 32%.

Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government extended the current curfew in Bhopal until May 31, 2021, in response to an increase in Covid-19 incidents. The decision to prolong the corona curfew was made at a Bhopal Crisis Management Team conference. Madhya Pradesh recorded 4,384 cases and 79 deaths on Friday.

Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Saturday (May 22, 2021) that the corona curfew will be lifted effective June 1. “However, unlocking can be achieved in such a manner that the virus does not spread again,” he said.

Aside from Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa, several other states have placed lockdown-like restrictions in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
