Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was presented a cheque of Rs. 5 crore 11 lakh by the Water Resources, Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development Minister Tulsiram Silawat on behalf of Madhya Pradesh Matsya Mahasangh (Fisheries Federation) towards fish production dividend.

Chief Minister Chouhan congratulated and greeted Minister Silawat and the Matsya Mahasangh for their continuous excellent work and efforts.

Chief Minister Chouhan said the progress and growth of the state would be achieved through such development works and we would be successful in building a self-reliant Madhya Pradesh.

Principal Secretary Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development Kalpana Srivastava and officers of Matsya Mahasangh were present.

2.31 lakh hectare water areas has been handed over to the Matsya Mahasangh by the state government for development of fisheries industry, maintenance and fish trade.

The work of fishing in the reservoirs of the Matsya Mahasangh is given to the local traditional fishermen living in the vicinity of the reservoir.

Persons displaced and affected by the construction of reservoirs are also linked to fishing. These activities are conducted by forming cooperative societies of local traditional fishermen and persons displaced and affected by the construction of reservoirs.

Along with this, opportunities for livelihoods are provided to the fishermen near their place of residence.

For the fish produced from the reservoirs of the Matsya Mahasangh, the Mahasangh pays royalty to the state government at the rate of Rs. 6 per kg.

Under this arrangement, royalty of Rs. 5.11 crore was paid to the state government for the productions of Matsya Mahasangh in the year 2021-22.

Many activities are being conducted by the Matsya Mahasangh for the social and economic upliftment of the fishermen.
