Manoj Bajpayee, who launched the trailer for Season 2 of The Family Man on May 19, has received a lot of criticism on Twitter. A part of the public has taken to social media to criticize the web series for portraying Tamil Nadu, a southern Indian state, in a negative way. They also labeled the show as “anti-Tamil.”

Srikant Tiwari (Bajpayee) is pitted against the “new face of danger,” a fictitious terrorist leader played by Samantha Akkineni, in a trailer that has appeared online. Following the launch, hashtags like #ShameOnYouSamantha and #FamilyMan2_against_Tamils started trending on Twitter. Following the release of the teaser, several people have demanded a public apology from the series’ directors, Raj and DK.

Some critics of Family Man 2 believe that Akkineni’s militant character is being labelled a jihadist, and that the Tamil group is being depicted as terrorists. Akkineni’s character appears to be struggling for an autonomous state for ethnic Tamils, a fallout from the 1983 war in Sri Lanka, which pitted government forces against the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Family Man S1 was a massive Hit

The Family Man was a 2019 action-drama series about a middle-class man named Srikant who works for the National Investigation Agency’s special cell (NIA). The web series, directed by Raj and DK, follows Srikant as he walks a tightrope between his covert, low-paying work and becoming a husband and father.

This year’s second season was scheduled to premiere in February. The series was, however, delayed just days before the trailer was to be released. It will now be out on June 4th. Seema Biswas, Sharad Kelkar, Darshan Kumar, Sunny Hinduja, Shahab Ali, Shreya Dhanwantary, Mahek Thakur, and Vedant Sinha will all appear in this new season.
